Florida State University Chapter Address questions and comments to the

At the Pike
University leadership school in August, 2009, chapter officers
were awarded their eighth consecutive Robert Adger
Smythe Award, symbolic of the top eight (major school) Pike
chapters in the nation. Other major school winners last year
were the Pike chapters at Nebraska, Michigan, Virginia Tech,
Tennessee, Cincinnati, Washington and the University of Illinois. When our new
house was built in 2005, we knew keeping grass in the 7,000 square
courtyard would be a problem because of drainage and because it
gets so little sun. Knowing it's easier to invent solar-powered
mobile phones
using matchsticks than grow grass in our yard, we didn't even
try. Now, through the generosity of Dan Hendricks '75 and
the leadership of Brent Sembler '79 and Andy Miller '70
and other alumni who contributed money to the project, the entire
courtyard has been covered in quality artificial turf.
Chris Koch '01 writes: "Here is a picture of the newly "carpeted" courtyard. I've also attached a picture that I took a month ago of the courtyard before for contrast. These pictures were taken Saturday shortly before it was brushed (hence the lines) and completed. It looks great and as you can see is a vast improvement! The undergrads have been playing on it non-stop since it was installed and are very excited. Some of the Brothers have even been sleeping outside on the turf at night!"
The splendid O. Ken Marks Foyer features a mirrored trophy case and a glass wall overlooking the courtyard. The front doors require an electronic code to enter.
Delta Lambda chapter history and achievements are displayed in the Doug Russell Legends Room located just off the foyer. The great oak doors leading into the Legends Room were designed for our chapter based on a set of doors in the Rotunda at the University of Virginia where Pi Kappa Alpha was founded in 1868.
The magnificent new Pi Kappa Alpha house at Florida State University is the largest fraternity house in the nation with more than 40,000 square feet under one roof. The new house features thirty two-man suites; each suite with its own full kitchen, living room and washer-dryer set. Each man has his own separate bedroom and bathroom. The house was designed by award winning architect Brad Innis and built by Mad Dog Construction Company. The house cost more than $4.5 million and was funded by contrbutions through the Legends of Delta Lambda Campaign, Brent Sembler, Chairman.
