Josh Green '01 & Laura Coburn Wed
October 14, 2006

[December, 2006] Founding father Josh Green ’01 was married to Laura Coburn on October 14, 2006, in Tallahassee. The ceremony was held at St. Thomas Moore Catholic Church, and the reception was at the FSU President’s house and Alumni Center. Josh and Laura met through some fraternity brothers who were dating some ADPi’s at the 2003 Pike Hawaiian. They got paired up for a date function Josh’s senior year and “just clicked.” They’ve been inseparable ever since.

As an undergradate, Josh served as chapter secretary, pledge educator and a variety of other positions while also being named Delta Lambda’s 2003 Best Brother by the Chapter. Laura is a member of Alpha Delta Pi, a Rho Gamma and served as the overall Director for Dance Marathon in 2005. Josh graduated in 2004 with a degree in Residential Sciences and Laura graduated with a Recreation and Leisure degree in 2005. They reside in Lake Worth, Florida where Josh is a purchasing agent with EH Building Group and Laura is a legislative aide for the Florida Senate.

The aptly titled “AD-Pike” wedding, because the majority of the guests were Pikes and Alpha Delta Pi’s, was reminiscent of the socials during our undergraduate years. The band “Reckless” even made the trip down from Nashville to perform at the wedding as they did at most pike date functions from 2001-2004. In total, over 50 pikes and 30 ADPi’s trekked back to Tallahassee to celebrate the joyous occasion.

“What a beautiful wedding and an awesome time! I feel like I stepped in a time machine and we are all back in college again. I’m so happy for Laura and Josh” said Chris Schmidt ’01, fraternity brother and groomsman.

Dru and Brittany Swain Married Last Summer
and Are Now Expecting a Little Girl!

[December, 2006] I am currently finishing up my Masters degree here at FSU in Recreation
and Leisure Services Administration. My wife, Brittany (Cotton) and I
were married on August 5, 2006 in Thomasville, Georgia. Shortly thereafter we got the exciting news we are expecting! We found out this past month that we are going to have a little girl, due in May 2007.

Brittany, a graduate of Florida State and an Alpha Delta Pi, is the assistant director of the DANCECHANCE program with the Tallahassee Ballet, as well as being the assistant director of Wildwood Ballet. She can't wait to put her professional dancing shoes back on once again as soon as the baby is born. I'm currently teaching two classes through FSU, Outdoor Adventure Education and Rock Climbing and am in training to attend the Central Florida Fire Academy in February 2008 where I'll become a Florida State Certified Firefighter.

In the bonds,

Dru Swain '01

Jeremy To’s Bachelor Party
October 6-8, 2006

[October, 2006] A group of pikes made the trip from all over Florida, South Carolina and even Memphis, Tennessee to Ft. Lauderdale to celebrate the last hoorah for fraternity brother Jeremy To ’01. The pikes invaded Ft. Lauderdale with the fire and fury they had shelved upon graduation from FSU. A late night on the town Friday night didn’t deter everyone from waking up early on Saturday to go shark fishing. While we didn’t catch a shark, Jeremy did catch a 7½ foot sailfish that provided dinner for the whole group. “It gave me the fight of my life, that was awesome!” Jeremy proclaimed shortly after catching the fish, securing his boat as the winner of the two boat competition. Being that he has no fight left, Jeremy will marry Kim Riecks, an Alpha Delta Pi from FSU, on December 9, 2006.

2006 Booster Cruise
Athens to Venice

Left to right: Lyle McAlister, Bobby Jones, Ron Moody, Joel Padgett, Andy Miller, Jim Provencher, Charlie Barnes, Jim Pitts, Jim Smalley, Gary Prescott, Randy Jones.

[June, 2006] Seventeen Delta Lambda alumni and their wives/dates enjoyed a fabulous Athlens-toVenice cruise in May as part of an exclusive Seminole Boosters offering. The luxury Seven Seas Navigator carried only 244 couples. On "Pike Night" most of the Brothers gathered in Randy Jones' penthouse suite for cocktails and fellowship.

The beautiful Pike flag belongs to Gary Prescott. As the ship sailed into Venice, somehow Prescott managed to affix the flag to the main mast and the vessel appeared to be an entirely Pike venture.

Pike passengers included: Lance Barton & Sonya Deen, Mickey & Janet Fernandez, Bobby & Susan Jones, Randy & Brenda Jones, Lyle & Susan McAlister, Stuart & Lynette McKown, Andy & Cindy Miller, Charlie & Connie Barnes, Ron Moody & Laura LeCher, Joel & Dianna Padgett, Steve & Susan Pickett, Jim & Martha Pitts, Gary & Carla Prescott, Jim & Cindy Provencher, Harry & Deborah Sargeant, Jim & Jenny Smalley and Barry Smith & Mary Ann Stiles.

Several prominent fraternities held meetings on board. Phi Delt claimed to have more than 20 alumni but we haven't seen the list. SAE alumni met to discuss a strategy to reinstate their chapter at FSU. ATO alumni conducted a house corporation meeting. Lambda Chi also had a large contingent, and there were small clusters of Sigma Chis and KAs.

Steven Jessup '01 and Jenna Taylor
Marry in Atlanta on July 1st

Back row rom left to right: Kyle Steinke, John Esposito, Ryan Callahan, Brian Middlebrooks, Jason Abeles, Chris Koch, Sean Thomason, seated is Josh Broxson and Jason Vetzel (yes he is on his lap, no worries though, Broxson married a former 'Bama Tridelt this past weekend!

[August, 2006] Congratulations to Steven Jessup ('01) who served as the first Pike Secretary for the new Colony in 2000 and who now works as a a police officer with the Atlanta Police Department. On July 1, he married Jenna Taylor, a University of Georgia alumnus who he met after moving to Atlanta. The wedding and reception were held at the Atlanta National Golf Club. Fellow brothers who all met during colonization of 2000 are seen celebrating with the happy couple in the group photo above.

Shawn Hutcherson '01 and Leslie Griffin Wed

[June, 2006] On May 27, 2006 Shawn “Hutch” Hutcherson ’01 and Leslie Griffin were married in Pensacola, Florida. The storybook weekend was filled with festivities including a picturesque rehearsal dinner and fish fry on Pensacola Beach complete with fresh Florida grouper, good music, great times and numerous toasts to the bride and groom and the good old days in Tallahassee. The ceremony was held in the majestic First Baptist Church of Pensacola and the party continued long into the night during a reception hosted at the National Museum of Naval Aviation at the Naval Air Station in Pensacola.

Hutch’s wedding party included six Delta Lambdas, all of whom are former Executive Council members of the chapter. Best Man JJ Akos ’01, Jeremy To ’01, Chris Schmidt ’01, Joe Cherry ’01, Troy Mutter ’01 and Jon Graber ’02. All told, there were over 50 Pikes and 30 ADPi’s in attendance to share in the celebration, making the weekend one to remember. The wedding served as the beginning of a new era of a relationship that began when the couple first met at Westcott fountain on FSU’s campus in the spring of 2001. Leslie is a member of Alpha Delta Pi and was honored as a member of the Pike Dream Girl Court as an undergraduate. Shawn served Delta Lambda Chapter as a member of the recruitment committee, vice president and president and now is the Senior Director of Recruitment and Marketing for Pi Kappa Alpha Memorial Headquarters. Shawn and Leslie reside in Memphis, Tennessee.

Former Seminole baseball catcher Bernard Calibuso '02 Weds

After college I married the lovely Melissa Calibuso (Barnhart) whom many of you know. She was with me at basically every PIKE function I ever attended. After the wedding I was commissioned a 2LT in the U.S. Army and attended Officer Basic Course in Fort Leonard Wood, MO. We lived there for about seven months then I shipped out to Korea. Lucky me - get married and my first station is Korea. I am the Battalion Chemical Officer for 1-38 FA (MLRS) here in Camp Casey, Korea, the closest camp the military has to North Korea. My battalion is nicknamed the Attack Battalion. Due to OPSEC I can't go into what our mission is but next time I see you and the other guys we will swap stories. I have the responisbility of ensure my soldiers are able to fight in a Chemical-Biological-Radiological-Nuclear enviroment. Pretty intresting I guess, but believe me I can't wait to get out of here, back to the beach, back to watching FLORIDA STATE FOOTBALL, and most of all back to holding my wife. If there is one lesson Ive learned here it's: "DON'T TAKE FOR GRANTED WHAT YOU HAVE" you never realize how good you have it until its no longer there.

Hello from two 1966 Pikes!

Left to Right - Rich Wall (1966) and Jim Poe (1966)

[April, 2006] Hello from two 1966 Pikes! Jim Poe and I (Rich Wall) are alive and well - and playing lots of golf. This photo was taken at Jim's member/guest tourney in Melbourne. I came down from Washington, DC. Jim's the A-player, the horse, the stud. I'm looking for the cart lady. We had a strong second day and got some money. We'll both be retirees by the end of 2006 and look forward to attending more games in Tallahassee and visiting the Pike House. Best of luck to the new chapter and congrats on the new house. I can still remember when we moved into the "new" house on Wildwood.

'93 Colony Member Ryan McElveen and his Family

[April, 2006] I was a member of the '93 Colony and Pi Beta Phi "Man of the Year, 1994." My wife Monica (FSU Pi Beta Phi '92) and I live in Knoxville, Tennessee with our three children Walker, Sasha and Evan.

I'm a clinical sales consultant for W.L. Gore and Associates, Endovascular Surgery Division. I also serve as Executive Director of The Lena's Hope Project, a non-profit foundation that rescues young girls in Eastern Europe from the Russian mafia. These girls are either kidnapped or tricked into leaving their orphanages and enslaved into forced prostitution (sometimes as young as five years old). Our foundation tries to determine which girls have or will be targeted and then we rush in to get them before their would-be slave owners can get to them.

[March, 2006] What started as a bachelor weekend in Destin, for soon-to-be-married refounding father, and past SMC, Shawn Hutcherson '01, quickly turned into a reunion for a group of young Delta Lambda alums. The group comprised four SMC's, two rush chairs, three treasurers, and an IFC President, along with a slew of other executive council positions. After a few years of spreading across the south to begin careers and attend various grad schools, brothers hailed from as far as North Carolina and Tennessee to celebrate Hutch's last weekend of freedom! As was saluted many times, we drank to the Garnet and to the Gold. We drank to the young and we drank to the old. And much to the chagrin of Destin's residents, the Pikes of Florida State can still go all night!

Rob Haynie '84 Becomes A Proud Papa

[February, 2006] Here are my girls! They are identical twins and were delivered on February 16, 2006 at 9:22 and 9:23 AM. Lauren Haynie (Winer) and I met at Florida State during our freshman year while on Spring Break in Fort Lauderdale where we now make our home. We graduated in 1988 and were married in 1997 in Miami. We have always wanted children and always agreed we'd wait. It's paid off we feel. Now it's time to go back to work to pay for FSU. GO NOLES!

Pike Alumni at the Orange Bowl

The Seminoles took #3 ranked Penn State to three overtimes deep into the night of January 3, 2006. These Delta Lambda Pikes enjoyed a box at the game together: Lance Barton, Mickey Fernandez, Bill Gregory, Mike Hay, Mike Hasner, Neal Jagoda, Steve Lowsky, Kevin McGann, Andy Miller, Scott Roix, Brent Sembler, Jamie Zambrano.
(Not-pictured-but-nearby:) Charlie Barnes, Harry Sargeant.

[January, 2006] Young alumnus Eric Carr tells a story about the Orange Bowl parking lot before the big game. "There were about 40 of us; all young Delta Lambda alumni and girlfriends tailgating together before the Orange Bowl. Not too far away was a bunch of really obnoxious Penn State alumni -- big lumpy northern guys -- cooking their brats and spilling beer."

Eric said the Penn Staters continually hurled insults at the Pikes. "They had something to say about linebacker, A.J. Nicholson, and they kept trashing the Seminoles, calling us "Free Shoes" and "CrimiNoles," and they taunted us about not being ranked and about how great they were."

Eric said our guys couldn't think of any clever response. Nicholson had been kicked off the team the day before, and of course we did lose to three unranked teams this year.

"Then, they started the 'We Are!…Penn State!' chant, and we figured we had to do something. Where does Penn State fall short? What can we say to shut them up?"
One of the Pikes started chanting: 'No Hot Chicks! No Hot Chicks!' "Right away everyone started laughing and taking up the chant,' said Carr. "NO HOT CHICKS…NO HOT CHICKS!"

Eric said the Penn Staters immediately shut up and turned their backs, chomping on their brats and trying to ignore us.
